TotalEnergies, a global leader in petroleum product distribution, has announced a new initiative to support startup entrepreneurs in Ethiopia. The company will award over 431,000 ETB to 100 African entrepreneurs through its Startup Entrepreneurship Competition.
The competition, which covers 32 African countries, aims to recognize and reward innovative startups that drive socio-economic development across the continent. This is the fourth edition of the competition, highlighting TotalEnergies’ ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in its operating regions.
Since the competition began in 2015, 365 winners have been chosen from 40,000 applicants worldwide. For the upcoming 2024/2025 edition, TotalEnergies plans to support young Ethiopian entrepreneurs under the age of 35 in various business sectors.
According to a statement released to Capital, each winner will be named a “Startupper of the Year by TotalEnergies” and receive a monetary award of 431,550.00 ETB. Additionally, winners will receive personalized support and benefit from a comprehensive communication campaign to enhance the visibility of their projects.
TotalEnergies’ involvement in Ethiopia extends beyond entrepreneurship support. The company has been a pioneer in the energy sector, implementing onboard computer systems in fuel trucks and company-owned vehicles, setting new standards for efficiency and innovation.
By spearheading initiatives like the Startup Entrepreneurship Competition, TotalEnergies provides a significant opportunity for Ethiopian innovators to showcase their ideas, gain crucial support, and contribute to the country’s growing startup ecosystem.
