The Global Innovation Initiative Group (GIIG) will host the inaugural Ethiopian Startup Awards, a Global Startup Awards Africa event, in Addis Ababa on June 3-4, spotlighting Ethiopia’s burgeoning startup ecosystem.
This two-day event, organized by GIIG in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Skills (MOLS), the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MINT), and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), will include a variety of workshops, industry-led training sessions, pitching opportunities, networking, and an awards ceremony announcing the Ethiopian finalists.
This year’s Global Startup Awards Africa competition attracted 11,900 entries from 54 African countries. Notably, 24 percent of entries from the Eastern region came from Ethiopia, one of the 120 countries participating in the Global Startup Awards programme and the host nation for Africa.
The event will kick off on June 3 with an awards ceremony at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), celebrating the top Ethiopian startups that have advanced to the regional finals.
“Ethiopia’s selection as the host nation for the 2024 GSA Africa Awards is immensely significant and is already enhancing the country’s growing reputation as a hub for tech innovation. The emphasis on youth entrepreneurship through the Youth category underscores Ethiopia’s commitment to fostering the next generation of innovators and job creators. I look forward to celebrating their successes,” said HE Ms. Muferihat Kamil Ahmed, Minister of Labor and Skills.
