In a significant step toward supporting Ethiopia’s growing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Ethio Telecom has launched an ultra-fast EV charging station along Bole-Megenagna Road in Addis Ababa. This initiative aligns with the company’s vision of driving digital transformation and promoting sustainable mobility.
The state-of-the-art facility is designed to meet the increasing demand for fast and efficient EV charging solutions. With three charging modalities, it can simultaneously serve up to 32 vehicles, ensuring convenience for drivers.
The charging station features advanced AI technology that optimizes charging speed and power delivery based on each vehicle’s battery requirements. It can charge batteries at a rate equivalent to traveling 1 km per second, depending on the vehicle’s capacity.
The facility includes:
- Eight Ultra-Fast Chargers (up to 600 kW): Fully charges compatible vehicles in as little as 15 minutes.
- Twelve Super-Fast Chargers (up to 500 kW): Provides high-speed charging for quick turnarounds.
- Smart Pole Chargers: Integrated into the city’s infrastructure, offering emergency charging along key routes.
The station operates 24/7 and is fully integrated with telebirr, Ethio Telecom’s digital payment platform. Drivers can pay for charging services through the telebirr SuperApp, ensuring a cashless and convenient transaction experience. Real-time monitoring and management of charging sessions are also available via telebirr, supported by fiber, 4G, and 5G networks.
