A discussion was held regarding the details of the Startup Proclamation, which is currently being developed to create a more conducive environment for the startup ecosystem in Ethiopia.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from two key institutions, including the Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Beleta Molla, and the Director General of the Capital Market Authority, Dr. Brooke Taye.
Resources for drafting the proclamation have been gathered from various forums, including the Ethiopian Startup Expo, and discussions are ongoing with relevant stakeholders to refine the details.
Dr. Beleta Molla emphasized that the government is actively working to establish both operational and legal frameworks aimed at leveraging technology-driven innovations to improve people’s lives and support the creation of startups that address societal challenges.
The Minister also noted the importance of consulting with relevant stakeholders on the legal frameworks being developed to ensure the effective and cohesive construction of the startup ecosystem, with the goal of achieving the desired outcomes.
The discussion delved into new and enhanced aspects of the proclamation, focusing on areas such as startup designation, grants, the establishment of a fund, and the Credit Risk Guarantee Facility (CRGF).
Moving forward, the committee will continue to review the progress of the draft proclamation, incorporating insights from this discussion, before presenting it to the relevant authorities for further consideration.
